- A recent study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition looked at whether walnuts (providing ALA) and fatty fish (providing EPA and DHA) have similar health improvements with Coronary Heart Disease. Did you know? It takes 5-7 years for the Walnut tree to grow from a sapling into an adult tree suitable for harvesting…that is a long wait!
The best way to maintain freshness of your walnuts is to keep them cold. Due to the high oil and fatty acid content of walnuts, they tend to go rancid when exposed to hot temperatures. The best place to store your walnuts is in a glass airtight container in the fridge, away from any foods with strong odours like onions or fish! If you’re buying in bulk, then keep them in airtight storage, out of direct sunlight, in a cool dark area of your cupboard.
