Where are Australian Almonds grown?
Most Australian almonds are grown along the Murray River corridor in South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales.

Our Organic Almonds...
The first priority for our Australian organic almond growers is the health of the trees. To achieve this, soil tests are performed to make sure all trace elements and minerals required are present and balanced. Beneficial microbes and bacteria are then applied to the soil, which along with earth worms, break down the elements in the soil, making them available to the plant. The result is food that is mineral balanced, mineral rich and bursting with life giving enzymes. Food that is alive! Almond Orchard pictured.

Harvesting of our Organic Almonds...
Harvest occurs between February and April. Our organic almond growers can explain it better than we can, so here is what they had to say...

"Our Organic Almonds are ground harvested. For this to be successful, we need to have a smooth, grass free orchard floor. Not easy without herbicides..a lot of manual labour goes into this!
Once we are happy that the almonds are ripe enough, we use a tree shaker (pictured) to rattle the almonds from the trees!"

"We then sweep and rake the almonds into wind rows and let the sun do the final drying out of the almonds. Once ready, they are picked up with a mechanical harvester and stored, ready for cracking and packing. Cracking to packing is usually completed within a few days for maximum freshness of the finished product. At no stage do we heat or steam to "dry" or "pasteurize" our organic almonds."

How are Almonds processed?
The first step in processing almonds is to remove the hull and shell of the almond. This is known as either hulling and shelling, or cracking. Almond inshell pictured.

Health benefits of Almonds...
Almonds are around 20% protein and are rich in vitamins and minerals. Almonds also lower your LDL cholesterol (also known as "bad cholesterol").
