Chris Joyce & David Crawford, the two largest growers of Pistachios in Australia own APPC. Our Insecticide Free Oven Roasted & Salted Pistachios come from APPC. If you haven't tried them you should, they are truly fantastic! You don't know a good pistachio until you have tried one of these.

Chris, David & their teams have pioneered the growing, production and marketing of Australian Pistachios since the early 1980's. Their pistachios are hulled & graded in Robinvale, Victoria, the heart of the Australian pistachio growing region.

They began commercial planting back in the early 1980's when the CSIRO released a new pistachio tree breed in Australia, for Australian conditions. They had a few horticultural challenges thrown their way (oh the joys of farming!) & it was only in the late 1990's that Australian Pistachio's became readily available for us all to enjoy.

The pistachio variety grown here in Australia is known as Sirora, it is renowned for its beautiful flavour, excellent green kernel colour and a high percentage of 'wide splits' that make the pistachio nut easier for us to open. The pistachio tree is deciduous & needs very hot summers and very cold winters to produce well. Australia Pistachios are harvested around March each year. Soon after harvest you may see 'fresh pistachios' around the place, especially at growers markets (these are delicious), however most of the crops are hulled and sold as 'nut in shell' which are usually available all year round.
