Turmeric Paste from Pure Food Essentials is an innovative, easy to use, versatile and an absolute must have in anyone’s pantry!
Turmeric has always come in the dry powder form, which has had a long shelf life and easy culinary uses. However, as Peter de Jong, owner of Pure Food Essentials explains, "unfortunately in the drying process...spices do loose a certain amount of flavour and turmeric powder tastes nothing like it’s fresh form. Fresh turmeric though can be particularly messy staining everything it comes into contact with. So after twelve years of growing, promoting, and selling fresh turmeric we decided that we could make a fresh product with an extended shelf life.”
Turmeric is from the ‘Zingiberaceae’, the ginger family, and comes from the root of the ‘Curcuma longa’ plant which has a tough brown skin and a deep orange flesh. A native plant to Asia and Southern India, Turmeric has been part of traditional medicine, a condiment and even a textile dye, for over 5,000 years! It has even been referred to as “holy powder” in India, due to its anti-inflammatory properties, used to treat wounds, infections and other conditions.
It has only been recently, that this ancient herb has recently become popular in Western cultures. Mainly attributed to the increasing media attention on emerging research, highlighting the therapeutic properties of turmeric’s main ingredient, curcumin. Curcumin is shown to be a powerful antioxidant, antibiotic and antiviral constituent.
Studies have shown that curcumin enters our body’s cell membranes, where it can improve cells' resistance to infection and malignancy. There have been astonishing results from studies on the beneficial effect curcumin can have on conditions such as Type 2 Diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and many other health conditions. Stay tuned...I’m sure there will be more and more research released on this miracle spice!
