Creating delicious meals for all sorts of dietary needs doesn't have to be daunting. It can be an exciting challenge where you can show off your creative foodie flair! Over the past few years the veil on alternative diets has been lifted and the fear of what-on-earth to feed those of us with “different” diets has diminished (hooray!). So let’s get into the good stuff.. a variety of meal ideas for the holiday season:
The Paleo Party
This delicious little number is a great way to start your day. Whether you’re wanting a light breaky (because let’s face it, there’s a lot of eating to be done around this time of year) or if you’re looking for something to fill that hamper, this recipe for nutrient dense and super tasty quinoa bread is a definite winner. Don't forget snacks including nuts and vege sticks with a home-made Spicy Pumpkin dip. How about a Paleo gingerbread trifle to finish? Post party hang over cure: Virgin Bloody Mary
Gluten Free Goodies
Saying no to gluten just means a whole lot of yes’s elsewhere! Hello millet, amaranth, quinoa and buckwheat - show us what you’ve got. Organic Mesquite & Cacao Granola - if you can withstand eating this by the spoonful, it would make a great gift! Fill up your cheeseboard with Seed Crackers. What about Gluten Free Cinnamon Cookies? (pictured right). How about a Gluten Free Tabouleh for a great side dish. This Spiced Roast Beef with Red Wine Gravy makes a delicious main dish!
Vegetarian & Vegan delights
You know what? You can make friends with salad and no Christmas meal is complete without the vibrant colours of a beautiful summer salad. Check out Ascension Kitchen's Raw Rainbow Goji Salad and for the heartier meal, why not try Vegan Rice Balls?
Raw dishes are a great addition to any Christmas spread. They’re packed with living nutrients just waiting to boost our energy as well as being so fresh & so clean (thank you Outkast) and thank you Green Kitchen Stories for this yummy recipe for Fresh Summer Rolls. To finish, how about the Raw Anti-Oxidant Rich Cheesecake? You could also attempt a great Raw Vegan Cultured Cheese for afters.
Although we’re all a little nutty over here at H2G, we still appreciate some nut free days and those call for a dish like this - Apple Dressed Lentils with New Potatoes & Crunchy Salad. If you’re looking for a show stopping centre piece that’s nut free, what about Whole Roasted Tandoori Cauliflower with Mint dressing? Yes please!
Who says dessert can’t be eaten at breakfast time? Why not try this tasty sweet potato brownie (which is also gluten free). You could also make your own nut milk (with cashews, hazelnuts or almonds..) for adding to coffee, muesli or porridge.
Just as Sweet, Sugar free
In terms of eating, this time of year can be naughty (and oh, so nice) but if you’d rather limit your sugar intake try one of these - the very pretty Berry Trifle (pictured right) from Green Brick Road Health or a great Vegan Chocolate Mousse. Need a salad or potato dressing? What about this Garlicky Aioli..
