Here at Honest to Goodness, we are lucky enough to be surrounded by high quality, nutritious food. An important part of our core values and our desired impact as a business is the contribution we can make towards creating a better world - not only through our product offering and business practices, but through our community involvement too.

Food waste prevention is often a great chance for our business to give back to the community as it ensures that the quality foods that we occasionally have an oversupply of can still be enjoyed and benefited from by those in need. We recently took the opportunity to donate hundreds of organic Fairtrade chocolate bars to two fantastic local charities, Our Big Kitchen and St Canice’s Kitchen, which both run programs to nourish Sydney’s hungry, homeless and disadvantaged.

Find out more about how our sweet and simple little donation created a widespread impact amongst those in need.

OUR BIG KITCHEN

Our Big Kitchen is a Sydney-based charity that hosts a large industrial kitchen for community use. The kitchen is a space where various community groups and volunteers can come together to prepare and distribute meals for the needy right across Sydney. We love the impact and efforts produced by this amazing organisation, and jumped at the opportunity to add a special treat to their meals.

George from OBK kindly dropped into Honest to Goodness HQ last week to share with our team their story and how Honest to Goodness has made an impact through the donation of Chocolate and Love organic Fairtrade chocolate bars. It was heartwarming and inspiring to hear what he had to say...

Our Big Kitchen - Honest to Goodness Donation

"Our Big Kitchen is a community kitchen in the heart of Bondi. Last year alone, we made and distributed over 80,000 meals to disadvantaged Australians, thanks to volunteers and donations. OBK nourishes, educates, empowers and supports people in need and always with love. We offer a safe, non-judgemental environment where people from all walks of life can connect through doing good. Food and giving meals are the positive end result but the journey of how the meal was made is just as important.

Being able to have something as simple as a chocolate bar after a meal is something many of us take for granted, Most of these people haven’t had a chocolate bar in a very very long time… and I can tell you their faces were beaming."

Honest to Goodness Donation to St Canices Kitchen

ST CANICE'S KITCHEN

We received a lovely letter of thanks from Lynelle at St Canice's Kitchen in Rushcutters Bay after our recent donation to the charity organisation. Insight into their incredible story is quoted from Lynelle just below:

“Bordering Kings Cross, St Canice's Kitchen has helped sustain many since opening in 1988. We provide people with a quality free meal every day- 50,000 meals a year. It is a place where all people are welcome - no strings attached. Many small groups keep the place going day-in-day-out. These groups have enormous pride in the quality and nutritional value of the meals they prepare and our guests recognise the difference this makes.

We receive no government grants and rely entirely on the generosity of local businesses and the local community to fund the outreach we provide to those in need. This does mean that our focus is on providing a meal. Donations such as the chocolate mean that our guests are able to enjoy a special treat in addition to a meal. This is a luxury that many of them are simply unable to afford. We have started distributing the chocolates and the feedback is wonderful with many smiling faces!”
