After moving to Australia from San Francisco over twelve years ago, I was delighted to see nuts, grains and most importantly organic dried cranberries, at one of the first farmers markets in Sydney! It was there at the EQ Village Markets, where I was pushing my now 14 year old in the pram, that I first met owners Matt and Karen.
Supporting local farmer markets is what I do – in my job as well as in my family life. Part of my business is to run market tours specifically targeted to people who are looking to understand the complex food chain and ethics behind what they are purchasing. Autumn Pantry Tips
With Autumn here, it is a great time to clean out the pantry, get rid of the old stale ingredients and stock up with fresh legumes, grains and baking goods!
Autumn Markets Tips
Now that we have finished summer, the larger farmers have harvested and begun planting for winter.
- Stock up on eggplant, basil and capsicums, as only the small local farmers will be supplying these over the next few weeks! If you do see them on the shelf in your supermarket next month you will know they have had a long and weary journey to reach you!
With the cooler weather upon us, I have an easy and delicious recipe which will be sure to warm you up... Slow Roasted Lamb Shoulder with French Green Lentils!
