When it comes to salt, not all grains are created equal.
Our Celtic Sea Salt range is crafted in the ancient salt marshes of Guérande, France, by Le Guérandais – a cooperative of artisan salt workers who have been hand-harvesting salt in the same traditional way for over 1,000 years. This isn’t just salt – it’s a taste of time-honoured tradition, coastal terroir and natural purity.
A Salty Legacy Rooted in Nature
Along France’s wild Atlantic coast, the Guérande salt marshes are a unique natural ecosystem. Here, warm sun and ocean breezes help salt crystals slowly form in clay-lined ponds, before being gently hand-raked and gathered using wooden tools passed down through generations.
Unlike modern industrial salt, Guérande salt is never refined or bleached. It retains its natural moisture and trace minerals, giving these salts a softer texture, a pale grey hue and a rich, layered flavour that enhances food rather than overpowering it.
So if you’re searching for French sea salt or sel de Guérande, you can be confident in the authentic range of celtic salts we offer, all produced by Le Guérandais and their cooperative of paludiers (salt workers), preserving an age-old craft.
Our Celtic Sea Salt Collection
Every salt in our celtic range is artisan-harvested, sun-dried and sustainably sourced - straight from the salt marshes of Guérande.
Fleur de Sel de Guérande
>>> Available in 125g | 1.5kg | 25kg sizes
Known as the “caviar of salts”, Fleur de Sel forms as a delicate layer of crystals on the surface of the salt ponds. It's hand-harvested using a lousse, a traditional wooden rake, on calm summer evenings.
This is a finishing salt with a light, crunchy texture and complex flavour, used to elevate:
- Grilled meats and vegetables
- Seafood dishes
- Eggs and fresh tomatoes
- Dark chocolate or caramel desserts
A little sprinkle adds both flavour and finesse.
Celtic Sea Salt – Coarse
>>> Available in 600g | 5kg | 25kg sizes
Also known as Gros Sel de Guérande, this moist, coarse salt is traditionally used in French kitchens for:
- Cooking water for pasta, vegetables, or grains
- Rubs for roasts, meats or whole fish
- Brining and pickling
- Salt crust baking and preserving
Rich in trace elements, untreated and unbleached, this salt has a soft grey colour. With its natural moisture and crunchy bite, it dissolves slowly and brings depth to savoury dishes. Perfect for your eaux de cuissons (cooking waters) as well as for your salt crusted cooking. No additives, no anticaking agents – just pure, natural salt as nature intended.
Celtic Sea Salt – Fine
>>> Available in 600g | 5kg | 10kg sizes
Made by grinding hand harvested coarse grey salt, this extra-fine textured salt is ideal for:
- Everyday seasoning
- Table use
- Baking and dough preparation
- Sauces, dressings, and soups
- It’s easy to pinch, blend and mix, while keeping the natural complexity and mineral-rich goodness of the original salt. Unrefined, and additive-free.
