Founder & the Story Behind

King Island Pure founder Rod Skellet - often described as “a jackaroo who never quite got over it” - has turned his love of the land into a passion for beekeeping. Dedicated to producing pure mono-floral Manuka honey, Rod has a deep respect for nature and the vital role bees play. A self-confessed ‘closet greenie,’ he’s committed to maintaining healthy hives and protecting the pristine floral environment they depend on.

Ethical and Sustainable Beekeeping Practices

King Island Pure manages the entire supply chain, from hive management to honey extraction, ensuring best practices in bee husbandry. This approach results in some of the healthiest, happiest, and calmest bees on earth. The company adheres to stringent industry guidelines and prioritises quality over quantity, ensuring every jar is lovingly hand-packaged and contains only honey made by bees as nature intended.

Monofloral Manuka Honey – Pure & Potent

Unlike blends found on many supermarket shelves, King Island Pure offers 100% monofloral Manuka honey. This means the honey is sourced exclusively from the nectar of the Leptospermum scoparium plant, ensuring a pure and untainted product.

The honey is harvested from several apiary sites on King Island and extracted at their operational base on the west coast. Each batch is tested by the University of the Sunshine Coast and guaranteed to contain at least 514+ mg of methylglyoxal (MGO) per kg, a key indicator of Manuka honey's potency.
