These organic cashews are a combination of whole and broken cashew nuts.
Cashews make an addictive snack and are great in mueslis, baking, nut butters and stir fries. Cashews are also a popular ingredient in vegan baking - replacing cheese, yoghurt and other dairy products - as they blend into a thick, creamy texture once soaked.
No GMO. Unroasted and unsalted. No added preservatives.
HOW TO USE
They are a nutritious snack, in trail mix and are great in cereal or for baking. They also make wonderfully rich butters and are a satisfying addition to salads and stir-fries.
GROWING & PROCESSING
The cashew tree forms a brightly coloured false fruit that looks similar to a pear. The cashew nut is attached to the bottom of this fruit encased in a husk. Once harvested, the husk is removed as it contains a caustic resin, and the cashew nut, as we know it is revealed. They are lightly pressed to break the cashews into pieces. They are grown without the use of any insecticides, herbicides or pesticides and are preservative and additive free.

The broken cashews have a really strong, horrible aftertaste. They taste as if they've been swept up off a dirty floor, washed in a strong detergent and left to dry with the detergent residue still on them. Do not buy. I will be interested to see if my review is published as it is becoming my experience that Honest to Goodness only publishes 5-star reviews to give the impression their products are perfect, whereas I have found quite a few of them to be sub-standard, including these broken cashews. The blurb about the cashews being light pressed to break them into pieces sounds completely false. Who would intentionally break a cashew when it is worth more whole?

I should buy the organic whole cashew nuts as these are raw, 2/3 are half pieces and 1/3 are broken pieces of the half nuts. There are very few whole nuts as I have sorted them to roast the half pieces. It is very easy to roast in my Breville benchtop oven with low temperature to retain the nutrition. The broken pieces are for the making of my sourdough bread The delivery service is very good.
