Do you have any old lipsticks or lip stains at the back of your bathroom drawer? You might have 1cm or so which is too difficult to use, has dried up too much to use without crumbling, or was simply not the right colour for you? This recipe is perfect to upcycle those old lipstick pieces into a new, moisturising lip tint, with the lip-loving benefits of our organic shea butter.
Put the shea butter and coconut oil in a glass jar. E.g. a reused nut butter jar.
Put the jar in a small saucepan of water and heat over low heat until the shea butter and coconut oil have just melted.
Add in leftover lipstick pieces, mix well.
Remove from heat.
Decant into a small jar, or an old lip balm tube.
Set in the fridge for a smoother consistency.
To note:
If you would like a creamier texture and higher melting point, use more shea butter, and less coconut oil.
Why not experiment with mixing different coloured lipsticks, and vary the ratios of the recipe, depending on whether you would like a bold colour or a subtle tint.
